Free Initial Assessments!

The Functional Skills and GCSE Initial Assessments are designed to give a detailed picture of a learner’s current level. The answers given by your learner shape their initial level, a baseline for their journey with Pass. You can get an initial assessment for free, for as many students as you want!

Pass tracks progress in real time, updating a learner’s level after each question they complete. This means there is no need for repeated diagnostic tests, which usually only show a single snapshot of performance. As a result, learners can see their progress developing continuously as they work through the platform. Training providers can also register to gain access to the free Initial Assessment, diagnostic tests, and other tools, while monitoring learner progress throughout.

Improve on your Weaknesses!

Pass provides a Subject Knowledge Assessment designed to pinpoint specific areas a learner needs to improve. While the Initial Assessment establishes the correct course level, the Subject Knowledge Assessment goes further by identifying targeted areas for study and recognising prior learning through the topics a learner can already answer confidently. This information is then used to generate a personalised learning plan that learners can follow.

Both Functional Skills and GCSE diagnostic assessments also support training providers in meeting DfE funding requirements. Unlike other platforms, Pass offers these assessments with no registration or licence fees, allowing unlimited free access for providers.

Determine Current Level

The diagnostic tests are designed to establish a learner’s Current Level, which reflects their attainment within the Functional Skills or GCSE curriculum. This level is first calculated through the Initial Assessment and then continuously updated as learners complete exercises on the student platform.

The system uses a weighted scoring model that takes question difficulty into account. Rather than relying on simple percentage scores, it places greater emphasis on a learner’s ability to answer more challenging questions, while being less influenced by gaps in easier content. This provides a more accurate placement into the appropriate course and helps ensure targeted support is given where it is needed most.

Pass also identifies learners who demonstrate strong capability in some areas while still having gaps in others, offering a level of insight that goes beyond traditional assessment methods.
