The Success Centre Q&As

Why did you choose Pass over other providers?

“It was probably looking at the user-friendliness of the website and the fact that on the website there is plenty of resources that you can print off and use in your lessons and you don’t actually need to pay any money to access those resources and that’s what initially drew me to Pass”

Did you find the free resources useful?

“They’re very useful because we can sort of print them off and we can actually display them in our Success Centre and we’ve also got the answer sheets as well, which is really good for our homeschooled students because if parents want to take a pack home they can then take a pack home and they can do a little independent marking as well. So it’s it’s really good for that to get parents involved in their children’s education.”

Did you use the Initial Assessments and did you find them useful?

“We use the free diagnostic assessments that’s right so we’ll use the initial assessment and the diagnostic assessments, and then it’s a case of working out what level is most appropriate for that student, and then we can actually buy the premium package through our account. Using that diagnostic to determine the best level. So yesterday we had a 10-year-old doing it from homeschooling and she actually scored a 1.48 on her initial assessment in English, but that gave us an opportunity to do it there and then using one of our laptops and using the free initial assessment so it didn’t actually cost the parent anything, so that’s really good, and then once we got them results back there and then, instantaneously, we could sit down with the child, the parent, and myself, we could determine which course would be most suitable for them, and although she scored quite high on the initial assessment, we decided to go for a level one just from a speaking and listening perspective. So it’s very useful for us for that reason.”

Do your learners find the progress tracking helpful for them?

“Yeah so we screenshot it from our side the from our provider login because we have access to that, but also it gives them, not only give them a percentage of the actual content that they’ve completed, which is good, but it also gives them the levels as well. So often with our students we’ll say right once you’re up to 100% now go back through the course and if any of your topic tests or revisions are sort of below 60%, redo the revision and redo the tests and then once we’re at a point where overall the scores are pretty high, we can then put them through the mock test that are on there, and what’s really good about that, and this is across the whole programme, is when if they’ve got a question wrong and often if they get a question wrong and they can’t understand it it’s because of the way the question’s asked the video solutions actually show you that specific question, and with a lot of other Maths platforms that are used in high schools it’ll give you a general example but it doesn’t actually look at that specific question. So for us that’s a really big feature that helps us promote Independent learning for our students.”

What are the most useful course elements for your learners?

“For the learners, the video solutions is fantastic and the revision is really good elements. And what’s also positive as well is on there you can actually print off past papers as well. So if we really want to fully ensure that they’re going to pass, although they can complete the actual course and then the three mock exams, they can also print off some other exam questions from different exam boards, such as City and Guilds, and I know that that’s available on the website but just having it in there just makes it a lot easier.”
