Futures-Essex Q&As
Who are Futures-Essex and who do you work with?
“We are an alternative provision based in Essex. We work with young people who struggle to attend mainstream school.
We’re mainly a provision for learners with emotionally based school avoidance, anxiety and neurodiversity, but we also do have a really big home education cohort as well.”
How has Pass helped with your diagnostic assessments?
“The initial assessments really help with our baseline when we have young people coming in. The format is really nice, how it’s set out is quite clear and concise for identifying their baseline.
After the Subject Knowledge Assessment is a really good report that you get afterwards. It really does show us where the strengths are and maybe where we need to work a little bit with a young person. It’s great for all stakeholders and parents to get a copy of that as well, so everybody knows where that young person sits.”
Have they helped you track progress?
“I think because it really highlights where the learner was sitting on their baseline, it’s a really really helpful thing to show that progress.
Then we’re able to use that to set soft targets for them, and we’re able to cross-reference that with what we use, so that’s how we track their progress and see how that young person is moving on.”
Is the Pass platform accessible for your learners?
“We think it’s really helpful how the platform is set out. Lots of our learners like that they can learn in ‘chunks’.
I think the platform is really well designed in regards to being able to zoom in and zoom out. Our learners really like to be able to zoom in on the computer.
The questions are worded really well for our learners to understand and they don’t have to work with a time limit on the platform, which is great as that sometimes timers stress our young people out.”
Has the Pass platform helped your remote leaning offering?
“Some of our learners might be on site with us, while others might be in libraries or at home, so Pass really helps with keeping everything all in one place. There’s not lots of different bits of paper or different tutors holding different information.
The learners quite like that they can have more autonomy over their learning as well. If they wanted to do a bit of revision outside of their learning hours with us, they can access the platform at home, so that really helps too.”
Did you look at any other providers before Pass?
“We came straight to Pass if I’m honest with you.
It really helped being able to have the demo with Pass, to really make sure it was the right service for us.”
How have you found the support from the team at Pass?
“The customer service that you guys give is really, really good.
Any questions that I’ve got or if we’re not quite sure on something you’re always really, really helpful which is great.
Recently we’ve been speaking with Pass about reasonable adjustments and having that service is really great and really helps us a provider being able to support our learners.”
